About Me
Hello there, my name is Berea! I'm an American, veteran, and fellow "wait... why is everything closed on Sundays?" survivor living near Spangdahlem.
Over the years, I've experienced Germany from a few different angles: working thankless hours on the flightline, customer service work, accidental cultural misunderstandings, and countless weekends trying to figure out where all the good events were hiding. Just like you, I've had to learn how to navigate the strange and wonderful transition of living abroad; the joys and the frustrations. Somewhere between "this is amazing" and "why does this bakery only accept cash? 😭"
That’s why I created the calendar above. I’ve often discovered exciting events happening on weekends when I previously thought nothing was going on. I understand how overwhelming it can be to find out what’s happening locally (off base) and the uncertainty about where and how to get that information.
While living in the Eifel and working in the hotel industry over the last few years, I’ve also been lucky enough to build connections with other veterans, military families, TDY aircrew, and local Germans — and honestly, some of the best recommendations come from conversations of people merely passing through.
So, I decided to create the kind of resource I wish I’d had when I first arrived.
Between Castles will be a curated collection of weekend escapes, local events, hidden finds, cozy towns, practical guides, and little bits of European magic designed specifically for folks living in or passing through Europe. Whether you're stationed here temporarily, visiting, or just passing through, my goal is simple:
